The Song That Changed Everything
Journey with Mary into the Heart of Christmas
It’s easy to think of Christmas as something that happened long ago in a land far away. It’s sweet and sentimental. An occasion for giving and receiving gifts, but nothing more. Yet our perspective makes all the difference. What if we saw through the eyes of someone else – specifically, Mary the mother of Jesus? She’s a revered religious figure, represented in stunning and historic art and iconography around the world. Because of this, it’s easy to forget that Mary was an impoverished, unmarried teenage girl. A nobody. Yet she was just the type of person God was looking for to reveal himself to a weary world. In a section of the Gospel of Luke known as “Mary’s Song,” she recounts her feelings about her role in God’s plan: “My heart is overflowing … my soul is full of joy.” As her poem continues, Mary notes the joy is not hers alone. God’s mercy, kindness and love are extended to those who seek him “in every generation” – extending even to us today. “Adore Him: The Song of Mary” will use narration, choirs, orchestra, costumes and sets to bring this sacred story to life once again.
